We're hiring a Technical Engineering Manager to lead remote-first, high-performing pods building mission-critical payments infrastructure across Africa and beyond. You'll combine strong technical execution with people-first management—steering delivery, mentoring devs, and writing code where needed.

WHAT YOU WILL BE BUILDING?
- Resilient payments infrastructure processing millions of transactions
- Scalable backend systems using Python, Node.js, and TypeScript
- Internal dashboards and tools driving merchant and ops efficiency
- Secure, compliant systems aligned to financial regulations
- Reusable frameworks and architectural guidance for distributed teams
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the delivery, technical quality, and velocity of your pods
- Partner with Tech Leads and Product Managers to shape and execute roadmaps
- Own technical engagement with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide hands-on support via code reviews, estimations, and mentoring
- Drive hiring, performance management, and career development within the team
- Improve visibility and transparency through metrics and sprint data
OUR REQUIRED EXPERTISE
Technical Leadership:
- 8+ years of engineering experience, with a track record of technical ownership; 2+ years as a Technical Manager
- Strong skills in at least 2 of: Python, Node.js, TypeScript, React
- Fluency in AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, EKS, RDS) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform)
- Comfortable with SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) environments
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and automation
People & Process:
- Proven experience managing engineers and cross-functional delivery
- Skilled at coaching, feedback, hiring, and technical decision-making
- Payments or banking domain experience is a strong advantage
- Familiar with agile delivery practices and performance metrics
- Strong communicator - confident working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
