We're looking for a Technical Engineering Manager to guide high-performing, remote-first teams building mission-critical systems in the digital payments space across Africa and beyond. You'll blend hands-on technical oversight with strategic delivery ownership - leading pods that support merchant success, compliance, and operational excellence.

Scalable backend systems using Python, Node.js, and TypeScript

Dashboards and internal tools that power merchant and ops success

Secure systems aligned with regulatory and compliance requirements

Technical frameworks and architectural guidance for distributed teams
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the delivery, technical quality, and velocity of your pods

Partner with Tech Leads and Product Managers to shape and execute roadmaps

Own technical engagement with internal and external stakeholders
-
Provide hands-on support via code reviews, estimations, and mentoring

Drive hiring, performance management, and career development within the team

Improve visibility and transparency through metrics and sprint data

Step into the Tech Lead role when needed
OUR REQUIRED EXPERTISE
Technical Leadership:
-
8–10+ years of engineering experience, with a track record of technical ownership

Strong skills in at least 2 of: Python, Node.js, TypeScript, React
-
Fluency in AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, EKS, RDS) and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform)

Comfortable with SQL (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) environments

Experience with CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools, and automation
People & Process:

Proven experience managing engineers and cross-functional delivery

Skilled at coaching, feedback, hiring, and technical decision-making

Payments or banking domain experience is a strong advantage

Familiar with agile delivery practices and performance metrics

Strong communicator - confident working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
